Loris Malaguzzi was one of the most important figures in 20th century early childhood education, achieving worldwide recognition for his educational ideas and his role in the creation of municipal schools for young children in the Vea Vecchi, Art and Creativity in Reggio Emilia "La sensibilità estetica è trasversale e si colloca come barriera per allontanare tutte le forme di violenza e sopraffazione".
A form of communication that needs to be created with others in mind. "An integral part of the procedures aimed at fostering learning and for modifying the learning-teaching relationship." Vea Vecchi (2010) points out “We must go beyond materials and techniques to stop and look at processes of empathy and intense relations with things…” and this too is another important reminder, that it is not enough for children to be busy with hands ‘sticking and gluing’ or ‘exploring paint’ but to engage their emotional sensitivity and construct together with other children and their educators deep relationships to matter and knowledge.

by Debi Keyte-Hartland. The aesthetics of learning or the seeking out of beauty and loveliness as Vecchi (2010) described it has been embraced by the Reggio Emilia educational philosophy and can be seen in the ateliers, the spaces and rich environments of the schools, the presentation of children’s learning processes through pedagogical documentation as well as in the materials offered to children on a daily basis to contemplate. as Vea Vecchi discusses in an interview with Lella Gandini (2012). More than 50 years since the genesis of the municipal preschools and infant-toddler centers in Reggio Emilia, Italy, our own trans-formative interpretation of the concept to which Carla Rinaldi refers as “the whole school as an atelier” (Gandini, 2015) has been emerging

Consider the following quote from Vea Vecchi, an atelierista in the Reggio schools: We feel it is necessary, once again, to deny the assertion that learning, and how we learn, is a process that cannot be seen, that cannot be activated and observed, leaving the school with the sole task of eliciting learning and then verifying it after the fact.
